In my opinion, the welded rail tends to diminish the dramatic effect. . . In fact, i was surprised at how quiet the engine itself was. . .

I recorded this sound at the steam-locomotives preservation park in kyoto, japan. Roar of steam whistle was much louder than i had imagined, so it was necessary to set the gain level of mic-preamp carefully. Using at825 and fr-2.
